    Case Study

    Christie clear thanks to Minicom

    • The Challenge

Christie was looking for the ability to have four remote administrators manage 100 servers in its data center. The servers are a mix of PS/2, USB and Blade chassis.

    • The Solution

Minicom recommended the DX Matrix 4x32 switch whereby each of the four users receives their own user station. The DXcan be cascaded to allow Christie Digital’s staff to manage all of the serverwell as devices such as routers and power strips from a single interface. It provides a highly secure, integrated, flexible and supremescalable solution for 24/7 BIOS-level control and management. The DX also has the ability to seamlessly manage the blades. As per Christie Digital’s request, the administrators have access to the data centerIP. Should the network go down for any reason, the IP users have thability to access all of the servers in the data center through the local ports on their user units. To consolidate the four IP gateways and provide a single access point to the current installation, the
KVM.net ® management platform oversees the system. Christie was also able to repurpose its legacy KVM switches, saving money and time using the unique “Real Needs” approach. An approach which focuses on providing solutions for a company’s specific needs without them having to throw out perfectly working equipment.

    • The Results

Christie can now access its servers either locally or remotely over IP. This solution provides it with a measure of business continuity that only Minicom is able to provide. Christie saved a substantial amount by not having to replace its existing KVM Switch infrastructure. Based on the success of this installation, Christie has already duplicated this solution at a second facility.
