Muira pauma herb
Muira puama herb, often referred to as “potency wood,” is a small tree native to the Brazilian Amazon rain forest. In Brazilian herbal medicine, muira puama herb has a reputation as a powerful herbal aphrodisiac. Muira puama bark has been in the Brazilian Pharmacopoeiasince the 1950’s1 and is included in the British Herbal Pharmacopoeia as a recommended natural treatment for impotence.
Michael T. Murray, N.D. Co-author of the Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine states in his book The Healing Power of Herbs that muira puama bark “one of the best herbs to use for erectile dysfunction or lack of libido is potency wood, which is known as Muira puama (Ptychopetalum olacoides).
Dr. Jacques Waynberg a respected world renowned expert in sexual function at the Institute of Sexology in Paris, France supervised a clinical study with 262 patients showing a lack of sexual desire and the inability to attain or maintain an erection showed muira pauma herb to be effective. Within 2 weeks of treatment 62 percent of patients with a loss of libido claimed the treatment had a dynamic effect, and 51 percent of patients with “erection failures” claimed Muira puama bark was of benefit.
