Generale Ameglio Italian Civic Association Names 2008 Man of the Year

On October 1st 2008, the Generale Ameglio Italian Civic Association, New Britain CT (USA) names Paul Burgio 2008 Man of the Year.

New Britain, CT, October 30, 2008 --(PR.com)-- "On October 1, 2008, the Generale Ameglio Italian Civic Association, New Britain CT (USA) names Paul Burgio 2008 Man of the Year by the organization administrative committee," states President Paul Giliberto.

Born in Solarino, Providence of Siracusa (Italy) 1936, Paul Burgio came to the United Stated in 1955, he has been a member of the Generale Ameglio Italian Civic Association since 1956. His is married to Sarafina Burgio and lives in New Britain, CT (USA). Paul Burgio has worked as a tailor for more than 35 years and is now retired. He had worked at Rapheal’s in New Britain, CT (USA) and Lord & Taylor’s (West Farms Mall) as tailor and operations manager.

Paul Burgio has held many positions at the Generale Ameglio Italian Civic Association over the years, he has been Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Social Committee Chair and was a member of the Building Committee responsible for the construction of the Joseph Bianca Ballroom. Paul Burgio’s most favorable contribution while a member of the Sports Committee was being the Goalie for the Generale Ameglio soccer team from 1959 through 1961. The soccer team was the 1959-1960 B Division Connecticut (USA) champions. Later in 1972, Paul Burgio was named Team Manager for the A Division (Connecticut, USA) Generale Ameglio Soccer Team.

Paul Burgio will be honored October 18th, 2008 at the Generale Ameglio Italian Civic Association 95th Annual Dinner Dance held at the Joseph Bianca Ballroom in New Britain, CT (USA). Tickets are still available, donation is $80.00 per person. The Generale Ameglio Italian Civic Association (GAICA) founded in 1913 to support Italian American communities promotes awareness and interest in Italian culture as an integral part of Italian and American history. GAICA maintains cultural customs and provides educational programs. Its ongoing activities also include the Annual Ricotta Dinner Night and recently hosted the Miss Italia USA (CT) Beauty Pageant.
