Laboratory Testing Inc. Implements Improved Surface Plate Calibration Services

Laboratory Testing Inc. of PA has implemented a computerized surface plate calibration system with leveling feet to ensure reliable surface evaluation and provide customers with detailed diagrams and measurements explaining surface plate wear and deviation from the standard.

Hatfield, PA, November 03, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Laboratory Testing Inc. (LTI) of PA recently implemented a computerized calibration system using leveling feet to provide customers with enhanced surface plate calibration services. The computerized system provides the most reliable surface evaluation and documents results for customers with detailed diagrams and measurement readings explaining surface plate wear and deviation from standards.

Surface plates wear with use and must be properly maintained to ensure continued precision measurement. Routine calibration to measure surface flatness and repeatability, followed by resurfacing to restore flatness within grade guidelines, will maintain the accuracy of a surface plate. LTI’s new calibration system includes these steps, as well as cleaning and lightly polishing the plate. A calibration certification is provided showing “as found” and “as left” conditions, standard requirements and all calibration results.

About Laboratory Testing Inc. -- Laboratory Testing Inc. (LTI) of Hatfield, PA has been in business since 1984. LTI specializes in materials testing, nondestructive testing, specimen machining, failure analysis and calibration services. The lab is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 by PRI/Nadcap and A2LA, which complies with and exceeds the requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO 13485. The Calibration Lab, LTI Metrology, provides dimensional, pressure, force, torque, mass and vacuum calibrations for hand tools, gages, standards and other measuring instruments. LTI also offers instrument repairs and field services for surface plates, optical comparators, hardness testers, balances, hand tools, and compression testing machines. Orders for electrical, flow, temperature and humidity calibrations can be subcontracted to the company's audited vendors. As a representative for manufacturers such as Glastonbury Southern Gage (GSG), Vermont Gage, Mitutoyo, Boston Centerless, Swanson Tool and Starrett, LTI can supply new gages, tools and replacement parts at the manufacturers' list prices. Mechanical, chemical, metallurgical, and NDT services (ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, X-ray and hydrostatic pressure testing) are performed on metals and alloys found in fasteners, tubular products, barstock, plates and castings and some plastics. The chemistry lab also analyzes powdered metals, ores, ferroalloys, composites, ceramics, and aerospace and nuclear materials. LTI has the capabilities to test metals and other materials for strength and durability, flaws and defects and to determine composition and susceptibility to corrosion. Failure investigations are performed to determine the root cause of a failure in a product or part designed to operate under specific service conditions. The testing area also inspects welds for provides welder and procedure qualification. LTI's Machine Shop prepares test specimens for mechanical testing, including tensile and stress rupture tests. All machining is performed using computerized numerical control (CNC) equipment in accordance with ASTM A-370, ASTM E-8 or ASTM E-23 requirements and customer specifications.
