Car Park Solutions Specialist, The Parking Shop, Wins Second Prize in British Parking Awards, Held by Landor Publishing's Parking Review Magazine

The Parking Shop has won second prize in the "APCOA Living Streets award" category at the British Parking Awards ceremony held at the Dorchester, London. Ian Gamble describes the car park signage for which The Parking Shop won the award.

Castle Ashby, United Kingdom, March 22, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Parking Shop is delighted to announce that they have been awarded second prize in the APCOA Living Streets award category at the annual British Parking Awards ceremony. The award, presented in partnership with the national charity Living Streets and APCOA Parking (UK), was given in recognition of exemplary bespoke car park signage designed for Colchester Borough Council. The British Parking Awards are hosted by Landor Publications, publishers of 'Parking Review,' and are designed to recognise and encourage best practice in the parking industry. Ian Gamble, Sales Director, accepted the award for The Parking Shop during the ceremony held at the Dorchester, London. "It was a great afternoon," he said. "The Parking Shop is thrilled to have received this recognition for a parking sign solution thought to be the first of its kind in the country." When asked to describe the parking project that impressed the judges, Ian said; "We were commissioned by Colchester Borough Council to create car park signs in line with their 'Welcome Mat' concept. The car park signs needed to include visitor information, car parking tariffs and also opportunities for third party advertising. It was quite a challenge to design a sign with so many different purposes, without any detriment to the different messages," Ian explained. "But Colchester Council was delighted with the results and clearly the parking award judges were too."

The bespoke car park signage has been piloted at two Colchester car parks, but has proved to be such a success that the design will be rolled out across the whole borough. Parking Services Manager for Colchester Borough Council, Richard Walker, explains: "In terms of providing good customer service, simply asking for money in return for a parking space does not create the best first impression of a place. The Welcome Mat concept considers what drivers really need on arrival and should be a real help to them."
