Ken Atkins of WCED Addresses “Economic Development During an Economic Downturn” in New Podcast

Raleigh, NC, May 01, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Wake County Economic Development (WCED) (www.raleigh-wake.org) has announced the release of a new audio podcast discussing the topic of economic development during an economic downturn. The podcast features commentary from Ken Atkins, executive director for WCED, and addresses topics such as:

Where Wake County and Raleigh are heading in terms of economic development
Steps businesses and local government can take to ensure Raleigh gets where it wants to go and where it needs to go
How WCED has changed its approach during the recent economic slowdown
The role education and intellectual assets will play in helping the Triangle remain productive and competitive during the current downturn

At WCED, Atkins develops long-term economic development strategies for Raleigh and Wake County, manages the Chamber’s EDGE program and maintains relationships with elected officials and other key economic development allies. Prior to joining WCED, Atkins served as the president of the Catawba County Economic Development Corporation and was also the director of the Franklin County Department of Economic Development. A recognized economic development expert, Atkins received North Carolina’s Economic Developer of the Year award from The North Carolina Economic Developers Association, and North Carolina Magazine recognized him as one of the state’s top business recruiters.
