Sturges Manufacturing Receives Awards for Export and Manufacturing Success in 2009

Manufacturer of custom standard and engineered webbing and straps is honored at the Going Global 2009 Conference and by the Manufacturers Association of Central New York (MACNY).

Utica, NY, May 21, 2009 --(PR.com)-- After celebrating 100 years in business this past February, the Sturges Manufacturing Company has received significant recognition for excellence in global exporting and manufacturing. Originally founded as the Utica Suspender Company, Sturges has evolved into an award winning facility producing engineered webbings and straps per customer specifications. Their specialized products include energy-absorbing webbings for the fall protection industry, straps for automotive interiors, Kevlar webbings for fireman’s gear, and high-strength webbings for mountain climbing.

Sturges received the New to Export Award from the Going Global 2009 Conference held on May 7, 2009 at the Nicolas J. Pirro Convention Center in Syracuse. After developing a new technical product line in 2004, the company found that its products were well-received both inside and outside the United States. The foundation of Sturges’ success is its willingness to make exactly what the customer wants and to deliver outstanding customer service, regardless of where the customer is located.

Going global has allowed Sturges to expand their market for niche products. Many countries rely on products meeting the U.S. standards for fire fighting and fall-protection equipment, regarding them as a proven leader in these fields. In 2008, company exports made up 6 percent of its sales, and are forecasted to grow to 9 percent by the end of this year.

Sturges also received a Success Award from the Manufacturers Association of Central New York (MACNY) in recognition of its 100 years in business on May 14, 2009. The award was presented by Anne Kassel, Vice President of Human Resources Services, to the Sturges Management team.

Founded in 1913, MACNY is the largest association of manufacturers in New York State and one of the oldest manufacturers associations in the nation. MACNY has helped manufacturers lower costs, improve profitability and compete with manufacturers throughout the world. With a portfolio of professional services designed for manufacturing, MACNY has long provided members with the tools, information, people and resources they need to compete in both New York and the global market.
