Monitored Video Thwarts Copper Theft

Portland, OR, May 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Police arrested a suspected copper thief after a Sonitrol Pacific operator, monitoring a metal recycling company’s surveillance video, saw a man carrying items inside the company’s yard May 24.

Operator Tara Fulmer received an alarm from a gate at Calbag Metals and pulled up live video to see what was happening. She saw a man dressed in jeans, black shoes and a plaid shirt carrying something. She sent the guard service to investigate.

The security guard located the man carrying six copper wires, each three feet long, just outside the gate and detained him. Fulmer called police.

Officers arrived and took the suspected copper thief into custody. The man also had outstanding arrest warrants.

Sonitrol Pacific will burn the images of the man inside Calbag’s yard for use as evidence. According to a representative from the business, employees have had previous encounters with this person. The fast response by Fulmer, the guard service and the police ensured Calbag employees won’t have further unpleasant, time consuming and expensive encounters with him.
