BFM® Fitting, Distributed by Powder-Solutions, Significantly Improves Air Quality For Medical Technology Company

Case study, available for complimentary download, illustrates how BFM® fitting minimizes employee health risk in medical technology’s powder processing plant.

Minneapolis, MN, June 03, 2009 --(PR.com)-- www.powder-solutions.com Powder-Solutions, Inc., American distributors of the USDA accepted/3A certified BFM® fitting, has released a case study detailing significant improvements in working conditions for employees of medical technology company Amedica. Courtesy of the BFM® fitting, powder processed by Amedica is now securely contained within processing connections rather than released into the air.

Amedica, creators of revolutionary spinal implants, processes medical grade silicon nitride ceramic powder which is as fine as talc prior to processing. Before installing the BFM® fitting, a seamless and air-tight polyurethane sleeve and customizable spigot system, powder would consistently infiltrate processing connections.

“A sand cloud is the best way I can describe it,” states Jeff Goodell, Director of Facilities and Maintenance at Amedica, as he describes the working atmosphere in the powder plant. “We tried everything from rubber hose clamps to duct tape to contain this powder but it was ultimately too fine to hold.”

To minimize the risk of powder inhalation, expensive respirators had to be worn by Amedica employees at all times. To ensure a sanitary environment, Amedica employees spent nearly six hours every other day scrubbing caked-on powder off processing equipment.

“Jeff and I began working through the consultation phase when he sent me detailed drawings of the bulk powder processing facilities at Amedica,” states Marv Deam, CEO of Powder-Solutions, distributors of the BFM® fitting. “In turn, I drew specs showing how the BFM® fitting could be customized for each piece of equipment.”

After merely two weeks of consultation, Deam and Powder-Solutions customized a BFM® fitting system, which included spigots and replaceable sleeves, for the bulk powder processing facilities at Amedica.

“From the day I first turned on our bulk powder processing equipment with the BFM® fitting installed, I was amazed,” continues Goodell. “There was no more sand cloud and absolutely zero powder infiltrated from the sleeve.”

Zero powder leaking between processing connections meant no risk of powder inhalation and no need for six hours of cleaning every other day. Not only were Amedica employees working in a more sanitary environment, labor costs were cut as frequent cleaning was no longer needed.

“The BFM® fitting works like a champ,” concludes Goodell. “I don’t know how else to say it.”
