Rising Tuna Demand to Help Vietnam Exporters

With rising overseas demand, Vietnam’s earning from Tuna exports is expected to grow at a CAGR of about 23% between 2009 and 2013.

Delhi, India, July 09, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Vietnam’s tunas are gaining popularity around the world. The global demand for tuna is still rising while major exporters have reduced output. Despite the global financial crunch, tuna exports fetched around US$189 Million in 2008. This earning is expected to grow at a CAGR of about 23% between 2009 and 2013, says a new report “Processed Food Market in Vietnam”, by RNCOS, a leading research firm.

Their findings show that Vietnam’s tuna exports could increase significantly in the coming years despite the global economic slump, which has cast a shadow on most of the country’s seafood exports. Each year Vietnam finds some export destination in addition to the old ones. In the first quarter of 2009, Vietnam added 14 more markets compared to the first quarter of last year (2008). Presently, Vietnamese tunas are mostly exported to Western Europe, US and Japan.

The government of Vietnam is trying its best to maintain the growth momentum in its seafood exports by exploring new export destinations. Recently, the government signed an agreement with Brazil, under which Brazil now permits Vietnamese businesses to export seafood to its market.

Additionally, to build up Vietnamese tuna brand and promote sustainable development in the future, the ministry of agriculture and rural development (MARD) is planning to establish a separate association for tuna exporters. It will have full legal status and connect members across the country with each other to share both benefits and risks.
