Kick Start a Career at the Legacy Preston International

Coventry, United Kingdom, July 25, 2009 --(PR.com)-- With national unemployment figures at a 12 year high having work experience under your belt is now as important as ever.

The harsh reality awaiting many students fresh out of college or university is that job opportunities relevant to the qualifications they have worked for are now few and far between.

To help graduates kick-start a career in the leisure and tourism industry The Legacy Preston International Hotel regularly welcomes people keen on experiencing life working within a busy environment into the hotel, and has done so with great success.

Katie Walton, general manager of The Legacy Preston International Hotel, said: “This is a really competitive industry so gaining relevant work experience is now as crucial as ever bearing in mind the current climate.

“We often welcome students in the middle of their course, or just coming to the end, into the hotel so they can learn all about the different sides to working within a leisure environment.

“It is important to have an engaging work experience programme whereby the students are able to learn new skills, and show what they have to offer - rather than being left alone in a corner.”

Two students from Preston College, Charlotte Jolly, 17, and Joanne Wilkinson, 16, recently enjoyed a successful two week period working at the hotel on Marsh Lane, and impressed so much they were handed permanent roles.

“Charlotte and Joanne both spent time in each of our departments to get a feel of how we operate and they loved it here,” added Katie, who herself completed a 12-month graduate training scheme prior to taking over at the Preston International.

“They have both gone on to be employed on a permanent basis, and this underlines how enjoyable it is to work at the hotel and also the benefits of offering work experience opportunities.”
