United States Governors Declare August 1st “Pick Up America Day”!

Pueblo, CO, July 04, 2005 --(PR.com)-- Governors across the United States have responded to the mission of Pick up America and many have officially declared August 1st as "Pick up America Day."  They understand the scope of the problems caused by litter and have done their part to help get people involved in picking up the litter in their communities.  The following states have already officially declared the day in their states:  Arizona, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

Pick Up America is a non-profit organization that was co-founded by Connie Warren and Shawn Downer.  It is an environmental organization whose mission is to clean up America one neighborhood at a time.  PuA concentrates on removing litter by organizing neighborhood cleanups from coast to coast, such as “Pick up America Day” on August 1st. This organization also helps to eliminate abandoned homes and buildings.  All renovated homes will be donated to a needy family who, through no fault of their own, cannot afford to purchase a home. All renovated buildings will be donated to the city in which they are located for the use that would best benefit the residents.  Like all non-profit organizations PuA’s survival depends solely on the generosity of the American public. Each and every donation is greatly appreciated and will be put to good use.

As we all know, keeping America beautiful is a full time job. One person, one couple, or one family cannot do it. It is the responsibility of everyone. Environmental problems caused by litter include contamination to our air, water and land, leaving us all to feel the effect regardless of our racial, educational, or economical background. If it is not so beautiful in your area you can make a difference; grab a trash bag, get some friends or family members to join in, and help clean up America. Join PuA’s efforts on August 1st 2005 as they kick off the Pick Up America Project. They are asking all Americans to go out and pick up one bag of litter from within their communities.  If everyone did this, imagine the amount of litter that can be removed in just one day!
