Home Care Company to Offer Formal Cognitive Exercise Program

Always There Home Care (ATHC), an in-home provider of quality caregivers for non-medical services, announces their new cognitive fitness program aimed to improve memory function and critical thinking skills.

St. Louis, MO, November 12, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Always There Home Care combats Alzheimer’s disease with brain games.

Always There Home Care (ATHC), an in-home provider of quality caregivers for non-medical services, announces their new cognitive fitness program aimed to improve memory function and critical thinking skills. As a member of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, ATHC’s brain exercise program also serves as a preventative measure against memory loss and more specifically, Alzheimer’s disease.

“An estimated 4.5 million individuals are affected by Alzheimer’s disease,” said Angie Patterson, licensed social worker at Always There Home Care. “But studies have shown that practicing mental calisthenics can have a significant impact on delaying dementia. That’s why we are thrilled to be able to offer this program to our clients.”

ATHC is proud to offer this formalized program in coordination with The Brain Fitness Gym. ATHC caregivers are trained in coaching clients to exercise 14 cognitive functions and skills through 21 different online computer memory games. The caregivers then provide a progress report to the client or family members to track development.

When people participate in memory stimulating and perceptual speed activities, such as reading books or engaging in crossword puzzles and card games, the risk of Alzheimer’s disease is lowered.

“We’ve found that many older adults prefer in-home care, as it allows for the ability to maintain independent in a familiar place,” said Patterson. “With our comprehensively trained caregivers and a variety of unique services, Always There Home Care is able to effectively provide for our clients, all within the comfort of their own home.”

ATHC will also be hosting a free 5-minute memory screening on Nov. 17, in support of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s National Memory Screening Day, at their office at 13412 Clayton Road in Town and Country.

In addition to the brain exercise program, ATHC offers several unique services including senior driving assessments, home modification and Pet TOUCH Therapy. All ATHC caregivers are also trained in food preparation by a local chef and caterer to make meals fun, while meeting the dietary requirements of their clients.
