A Toast to the Achievements of Business Networking Group

Derby, United Kingdom, December 11, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Business on Toast celebrated a milestone in its development last Wednesday as its University of Derby mentoring scheme was publicly launched. The group welcomed the Mayor along with dignitaries from the University to celebrate the group’s achievements and its provision of 50 experienced business mentors.

The event, held at Limes, Friargate, Derby, attracted representatives from businesses large and small from throughout the wider area. Following a warm welcome from Business on Toast representatives, attendees engaged in open networking before enjoying a break dancing demonstration from members of the world-class ‘B-boy’ crew, Trinity Warriors, all of which was documented by group member and Photographer, Angela Heath of Cactus Images.

Following lunch, on adjourning to the upstairs conferencing facilities, The Mayor of Derby, Cllr Sean Marshall, addressed the group, commenting on its rapid expansion and the positive affects that it is having on the local economy and on Derby’s graduate and entrepreneurial populations.

Christine Dare, Employability Development Co-ordinator for the University of Derby, followed by delivering a 10 minute presentation to the group, detailing the benefits of the mentoring programme, the sort of individuals that should apply and the various stages of the mentoring process. Business of Toast University of Derby mentors span numerous and varied industries and will be imparting their valuable, accrued working knowledge on students, as well as entrepreneurs working within the University’s three business incubation units: Banks Mill, Network House and the iD Centre. This service will be delivered completely free of charge, enabling the mentors to gain social responsibility by giving something back to Derby whilst helping to increase the levels of graduate recruitment.

Business on Toast, part of LinQlaw Commercial Solutions, currently runs three networking events each week. The University of Derby Group meets every Wednesday in the upstairs area of Limes from 12:30pm to 2pm. The group has to date attracted members including Marketing Consultants, Graphic and Web Designers, Print specialists, Business Coaches, Photographers, Financial Advisors and Solicitors, to name but a few. All have gained valuable hands-on expertise in their own industries which they are now able to impart to the mentor scheme.

Business on Toast members include a number of successful companies currently celebrating their own achievements, including Martin Jinks from Bakewells Solicitors, who has recently been nominated as a ‘Pro Bono Hero’ for 2009 by ProHelp for his free legal work. Print specialist, ASAP Promotions, represented by Business on Toast Training and Development Leader, Yvonne Gorman, celebrates its 5th year in business and Telemarketing company, Instant Selection, represented by Anita Heath, celebrates taking new offices to accommodate its recent expansion.

Bill Cort, Director of LinQlaw commented: “We’ve worked hard at building our group, but all those who attend soon realise that Business on Toast is a superb way of meeting potential clients and for exchanging valuable referrals. Our mentoring scheme will not only provide invaluable input to the University, but will enable all of those involved to gain a greater understanding of their own businesses whilst further developing their own communications skills”. Mr Cort added; “Today’s event was a real success and we can’t thank enough all of those who attended. We are very much looking forward to our involvement with the University and hope to provide even more experienced mentors in 2010”.

Business on Toast will continue to expand its membership of businesses in the new year and invites all those who wish to learn more on how they can increase their business whilst gaining a measure of social responsibility to get in touch by calling 0845 519 0041.
