Gates Draftguard™ Anti-Rotation Device Named Finalist in 2009 ‘Product of the Year’ Competition

Denver, CO, January 21, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Gates Draftguard™ anti-rotation device was among the most innovative power transmission products of 2009 according to Plant Engineering magazine. As a finalist in their annual Product of the Year competition, Draftguard™ is now eligible to become a winner in the Power Transmission category. Winners will be announced at the 2010 Manufacturing/Automation Summit in Chicago on March 28, 2010.

Plant Engineering’s Product of the Year honors the most innovative and useful products introduced to the industrial plant engineering market each year.

Gates Draftguard anti-rotation device prevents belt-driven air-cooled heat exchanger (ACHE) fan drives from “windmilling” when they are idle. A free-spinning fan poses a safety hazard to maintenance workers and causes wear and tear on belts, shafts, bearings and attached equipment when fan direction is suddenly reversed during start-up. The Draftguard anti-rotation device uses a high-torque, one-way clutch to prevent backwards fan rotation. The device mounts to either Taper-Lock® or QD® bushings used on ACHE belt drive systems. It adapts to clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation and fits within most fan cages or guards without modification.
