Grant Thornton's Daniel Romano to Speak at Knowledge Congress’ Live Webcast on Form 990 in 2010: What We've Learned (Practical Guidance)

Event Synopsis

Nearly all organizations exempt from federal income tax who are required to file the annual Form 990 tax return have now done so using the 208 version promulgated by the Internal Revenue Service in 2008. The form and its instructions run over 300 pages. Much has been learned about the financial and governance requirements of the form. This presentation brings attendees up-to-date on the newest and latest experience and expertise in dealing with the new Form 990.

About Daniel Romano

Dan Romano is a Partner in Grant Thornton’s Not-for-Profit Tax Practice in the Northeast and is the national NFP tax practice leader.

Dan spends 100% of his time providing tax consulting and compliance services to tax-exempt organizations in the not-for-profit industry on such matters as unrelated business income, employment taxes, private benefit issues and other compliance areas. Dan has provided clients with assistance such as contract, operational, and procedural reviews as it relates to tax matters. Dan has also assisted in the establishment of tax policies and procedures as well as the structuring of contracts including royalty agreements. Dan also specializes in the area of nonresident alien taxation.

Prior to joining Grant Thornton in August 2004, Dan spent over 10 years with a Big 4 firm’s Exempt Organizations Tax Practice. Prior to joining a Big 4 firm, Dan had 3 years of experience with the Internal Revenue Service’s Exempt Organizations Division. As an IRS agent he conducted audits of various exempt organizations and received extensive training in the area of exempt organization taxation.

Dan has worked with numerous charities, universities, foundations and other not-for-profit organizations, including; Sesame Workshop; The Salvation Army; Alfred P. Sloan Foundation; The Rockefeller University; the Partnership for a Drug Free America; March of Dimes; Adelphi University; New York University; Covenant House; Hofstra University; Philadelphia Zoo, American Museum of Natural History; DePaul University; Girls Scouts of the USA; Anti Defamation League of B’nai B’rith; and many others.

Dan is a frequent speaker at not-for-profit and higher education industry seminars, and has led and created training sessions on applicable tax matters for firm staff as well as industry groups.

Dan graduated from Baruch College with a B.B.A. degree in Accounting. He is a member of the AICPA, as well as a committee member of their Exempt Organizations Tax Resource Panel and the NYS Society of Certified Public Accountants.
