San Francisco, CA, May 29, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services, welcomes Richard Miles as Executive Director of the Greater San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. With offices in San Francisco and Santa Rosa, the Chapter serves patients, donors and volunteers in San Francisco, Marin and the East Bay, as well as, Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, Lake, Solano, Humboldt and Del Norte counties.

Miles, a former entrepreneur and business executive in the Fortune 100, brings more than 25 years of experience to LLS. He sold his first business to Ingersoll-Rand in 1985, led global marketing for Polaroid's Magnetics division, and ran a successful consulting firm for 12 years before selling it to a client he helped grow from startup to over $50 million in annual sales.

"I am excited to be part of such a forward-thinking organization, and to become part of a passionate community of volunteers, educators, doctors and scientists dedicated to finding a cure for blood cancers. Much of the innovative research we fund is being done right here in the Bay Area, and our local patient services staff is among the best in the country," he says.

Miles joins LLS from the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, where he served as the Senior Director of Marketing. He is credited with creating a powerful ad campaign for the organization, helping to redesign its Endowment business practices and producing its first annual report. Prior to the Jewish Community Federation, Miles served as CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area and led the nonprofit through a merger of three local agencies into a stable, sustainable regional organization.

"We are pleased to welcome Richard to our team. He has outstanding credentials and his success in both the corporate and nonprofit worlds will serve us well in our quest to find a cure for blood cancer and improve the quality of life for patients and their families," said Brian Kinion, LLS Board of Trustees President.

Miles is also a civic leader. He is active in his synagogue (Kehilla Community Synagogue) and is a former Board member of Kidpower/Fullpower International, an innovative program that teaches children as young as six years old to seniors in their 80's self-defense and empowerment skills. He is a graduate of the Executive Program for Nonprofit Leaders at Stanford's Graduate School of Business.
