More than 800,000 children are reported missing every year, one child every 40 seconds. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) has reported that abductions and kidnappings are second only to drugs as child-safety concerns of parents.

In response to these staggering statistics and its continuing commitment to support the safety of our community, Gottschalks is pleased to announce our participation in the Safe Kids Card CD Program. The Safe Kids Card is a business card sized CD Identification “Card” designed to help disseminate vital information in case of an emergency. The small size of the CD “Card” makes it easy for parents to carry in their purse or wallets at all times, allowing them to be able to take immediate action if their child is missing.

While most missing children are found within a few hours, we know that any time apart from your child can be a stressful and terrifying experience. Time is of the essence when a child goes missing and the Safe Kids Card CD ID does what no paper, laminated driver licensed-like ID cards can ever do. It allows law enforcement officers to begin searching for a missing child on the spot.

Members of the Safe Kids Card CD Program will be at Gottschalks in the Fashion Fair Mall on Saturday, August 20th from noon to 4pm to weigh, measure, photograph and fingerprint children whose parents want Safe Kids Card CD identification cards made. The first 50 parents who bring their child to the Safe Kids Card Display on the 2nd floor will receive FREE Safe Kids Card CD ID’s.
