Medeco Introduces NEXGEN XT eCylinder as Cost Effective, "Smart SFIC" Security Solution

NEXGEN XT delivers flexibility and convenience and protects against loss and liability

Salem, VA, July 14, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Medeco’s NEXGEN XT is the company’s latest addition to its “Smart SFIC Solutions” product lineup. Available beginning in August from authorized Medeco dealers, NEXGEN XT allows facilities that utilize small format interchangeable core cylinders (SFIC) to quickly and easily retrofit those cylinders to add user scheduling, audit logs of entry, and key expiration without any wiring, hardware changes, or door and frame modifications.

This new technology allows SFIC mechanical systems administrators to efficiently and quickly upgrade hardware in areas where sensitivity to loss or liability might require higher accountability at the point of entry. The core is a direct retrofit into any Best™ style housing and is operated by a small, rugged, rechargeable key. Keys can be programmed to operate on specific schedules or times, or have expirations set for administrators wishing to limit long-term access to a particular area.

“The primary benefit to most is the added accountability the scheduling and audit features provide,” says Joseph Kingma, Director of Business Development for Medeco High Security Locks. “This accountability is an increasingly important security tool because it allows administrators to identify suspicious access trends as they work to reduce either loss or liability within the facility.”

The NEXGEN XT cylinders hold up to 2,000 audit events, and the keys retain up to 5,000 events. Data is retrieved through the NEXGEN Security Manager Software package and a USB programming device and programming key, eliminating the need for expensive and immovable wiring or door modifications.

Both the NEXGEN XT cylinder and key are constructed from very high-quality stainless steel for reliable operation in nearly any environment, and they are rated for exterior use. NEXGEN XT keys don’t require any battery replacements as they are recharged using a standard mobile phone charger with a micro-USB tip.

“There’s a growing need beyond what mechanical masterkey systems can offer for enhanced protection, flexibility and data needed to control access in today’s increasingly complex security environments,” Kingma adds. “NEXGEN XT goes beyond basic lock functionality to deliver extensive benefits to the end user. No wiring or electrical power is needed to install this product, and keys can be quickly activated or deactivated to work on any cylinder. For added protection, lost keys can be deleted from the system, and there is no risk for unauthorized key duplication. NEXGEN XT is a viable, cost effective solution that delivers convenience, durability and peace of mind.”
