Rockville, MD, October 01, 2010 --(PR.com)-- MarketResearch.com has announced the addition of GBI Research’s new report “Polycarbonate Market Forecasts and Growth Trends to 2015 - Increased Growth in Electronic Applications Driving the Market” to their collection of Chemicals market reports. The global demand for polycarbonate has grown quickly over the last decade. However, the economic slowdown has adversely affected the consumption of various commodities in many countries of the world. Hence, GBI found that demand for polycarbonate also slowed down in the year 2009. The global polycarbonate market in 2009 was 2.9 million tons. As the economies recover from the slowdown, the consumption of commodities is expected to rise again and hence, the global demand for polycarbonate will grow at CAGR of 6% up to 2015.

According to the report, Asia is the largest consumer of polycarbonate followed by Europe. The demand for polycarbonate is highest in Asia. China is emerging as the major demand driver for polycarbonate in the world. The demand in advanced countries such as Japan is also high but stabilized. With a large population in countries like India and China, there is a huge consumption potential in these countries. The Asian demand by volume for polycarbonate in 2009 was 930,000 tons.

The report found Europe to be the second largest consumer of polycarbonate in the world. Germany and France are the two countries which consume the most polycarbonate in Europe, but the demand in these countries decreased in 2009. However, this is now recovering. The demand for polycarbonate in Europe was around 600,000 tons in 2009.

The North American economy is the most developed and advanced and, according to GBI Research, the scope for growth is lowest. The demand in 2009 was lower than in 2000. The North American demand for polycarbonate in 2009 was close to 440,000 tons.

The above three regions cover more than 95% of the global polycarbonate demand. The demand in the Rest of the World (RoW) by volume in 2009 was about 112,000 tons.
