Two Stevens Professors Receive Bright Idea Award

Hoboken, NJ, October 29, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Two Stevens Institute of Technology Professors will receive the Bright Idea Award in Information Technology for their respective works on Friday, November 5. The award is sponsored by the Stillman School of Business at Seton Hall University and the New Jersey Policy Research Organization Foundation (NJPRO) – the public policy research affiliate of the New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA).

Dr. German Creamer, Associate Professor of Quantitative Finance & Financial Engineering in the Howe School of Technology Management and the School of Systems & Enterprises, will be awarded for his paper, "A link mining algorithm for earnings forecast and trading,” published in the Journal Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery.

Dr. Tal Ben-Zvi, Assistant Professor in the Howe School of Technology Management, will be awarded for his book, "Data analysis: A roadmap to better decision-making: Methods, techniques and applications.”

The Stillman School of Business and the NJPRO Foundation compiled the ninth annual volume of the Publications of New Jersey's Business Faculty, a collection of research works that were published in 2009. Dr. Creamer’s and Dr. Ben-Zvi’s papers were identified as two of the top 10 manuscripts from over 130 publications.

NJBIA is an employer association dedicated to providing information, services, and advocacy for its member companies to build a more production New Jersey. NJPRO sponsors and supports research in New Jersey through public and private policy research institutes, universities, colleges, and individuals to provide employers in the state with timely and practical information. In addition to these activities with academics and professionals, NJPRO also promotes entrepreneurial literacy and better business sense among grade school students through curriculum improvements.

The awards ceremony to honor his achievement, as well as the other Bright Idea honorees statewide, will take place on Friday, November 5 at Middlesex County College in College Center, Rooms 319-321. The event will begin with a continental breakfast at 9:00 a.m., followed by the recognition ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Besides fellow honorees, the ceremony will include the deans of the two-year and four-year business colleges and departments statewide. The ceremony will conclude by 10:15 a.m. Others are welcomed to join Dr. Creamer and Dr. Ben-Zvi in celebrating their achievements.

Dr. Tal Ben-Zvi
Dr. Ben-Zvi’s research focuses in the areas of decision analysis, network modeling, simulations, and operation management models. He is a recipient of the Technology Instruction Development and Business Case Award, Workshop on Information Technology Systems - WITS (2008). His innovative decision analysis models have primarily involved studying games in order to examine the properties of human decision making in a competitive environment. Dr. Ben-Zvi holds a BA in Economics and Management, an MBA in Information Systems and Operations Research and a PhD in Information Systems, all from Tel-Aviv University.

Dr. German Creamer
Dr. Creamer has been a senior manager in the Risk, Information and Banking Division in American Express where he worked in the enterprise-wide risk management and the information management groups. He has been the manager of planning and economic studies at Banco del Pacifico (Ecuador), program officer for the United Nations Development Programme, and economic advisor to the president of Ecuador, and to the government of Equatorial Guinea. Dr. Creamer has also consulted for several hedge funds and international organizations such as United Nations Development Programme, World Bank, and the US Agency for International Development. Dr. Creamer has a PhD in Computer Science (computational finance) and an MSc in Financial Engineering, both from Columbia University, and a PhD in Economics from the University of Notre Dame.
