Planning and Installation Guide for SERCOS III Available

Santa Rosa Beach, FL, November 03, 2010 --(PR.com)-- SERCOS North America announced the availability of the "SERCOS III Planning and Installation Guide." This guide is intended to support engineers and electricians during the planning and installation phase of a SERCOS III network in order to guarantee trouble-free operation of machines and systems. Cabling with both copper wire and optical fiber is described for both IP20 and IP65/67 protection classes. The specification is based on international standard IEC 61918 (Installation of communication networks in industrial premises), with an added installation profile for SERCOS III, which will be standardized in IEC 61784-5.

SERCOS III uses a component–based approach. Defined cables and connectors are combined and used to connect the automation devices in a machine or system. The total length of the cabling run as well as the number of transitions between cables and connectors are considered. The result is transmission lines that fulfil the requirements for SERCOS III cabling with a distinct reserve – without the necessity to perform extensive planning, calculations and measurements.

SERCOS, SErial Realtime COmmunication System, is among the leading digital interfaces for communication between controls, drives and decentralized peripheral devices. SERCOS has been used in machine engineering for more than 20 years and is implemented in over 2.5 million real time nodes. With its open, manufacturer independent Ethernet-based architecture, SERCOS III is a universal bus for all automation solutions.
