Glendale, AZ, November 18, 2010 --(PR.com
)-- Discount Cab driver Wyatt Skar was recently named the nation’s “2010 Taxicab Driver of the Year” by the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (TLPA), a non-profit association that includes more than 1,000 members around the world.
Skar, a Phoenix resident who has been driving for Discount Cab for almost three years, said the award came as a surprise.
“I was shocked,” he said, adding that his approach to his job is “to think, ‘How would I like to be treated? What would I want?’ Then I just try to give my customers the best service I can.”
That service includes remembering the birthdays and anniversaries of his regular clients, opening the door for his fares and making sure that customers always have a clean cab ride. Skar’s also known for helping passengers with their luggage or groceries, making sure they make it into their homes safely and helping would-be fares in their time of need.
“If someone’s having a bad day, I try to find a way to make them smile,” Skar said. “It’s just the little things. Too many people forget that. They’re always concerned about making the next dollar. My philosophy is to simply provide the right service so they want to come back. The rest takes care of itself.”
Skar’s TLPA award is the second in as many years for Discount Cab. In 2009, the company was named TLPA’s “Taxicab Large Fleet Operator of the Year.”
“Wyatt symbolizes the service and commitment we strive for each and every day at Discount Cab,” said Craig Hughes, CEO of Total Transit, Inc., the parent company of Discount Cab. “We’re proud of his accomplishment and proud to call him a member of the Discount Cab family.”
Now in its 26th year of operation, Discount Cab is one of the largest cab companies in the southwest, operating almost 600 cabs throughout Phoenix and Tucson.
