NSA “Expands the Compassion” to Katrina Victims

National Scrapbooking Association creates fund for disaster relief

Houston, TX, September 07, 2005 --(PR.com)-- The National Scrapbooking Association has created a disaster relief fund to help scrapbookers affected by Hurricane Katrina and announced that the organization will contribute $5.00 to the fund for every membership renewed in the month of September.

Expand the Compassion (ETC) is the NSA's ongoing effort to provide relief to NSA members and other Gulf Coast scrapbookers, both with their immediate needs and support over the long period to complete recovery. Monies collected by the NSA through the effort will go specifically and directly to scrapbookers who have suffered from the effects of Hurricane Katrina. Contributors will be able to follow where their donations go and how the money is spent.

The NSA kicks off the campaign by contributing $5.00 for every member who renews during the month of September. Over 800 memberships expire in September, plus members who have later expiration dates may choose to renew early in order to participate in the month-long effort. A one-year consumer membership is $19.95; therefore, the NSA will contribute 25% in renewal revenues.

In addition to the NSA’s contributions, NSA members and other caring individuals and companies can participate in the Expand the Compassion effort in several ways:

• To help meet the needs of all victims, the NSA encourages that cash donations be made to agencies and charities designated to provide immediate help, such as local churches, the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross.

• Secondly, the NSA has established a separate PayPal account to accept donations to the ETC effort. Three members of the NSA live in the affected area. Additionally, the local scrapbooking store, Scrappersaurus in Metarie, LA, has sustained some damage, and many of the store’s customers have lost everything. These scrapbookers will be the recipients of the donations made to the ETC fund.

• Thirdly, the NSA supports the local and grassroots efforts of scrapbookers to help the victims of Katrina, many of whom are organizing or participating in fundraising crops and events. If you are involved with a scrapbooking event to raise money for disaster relief, please post your event to the NSA Event Calendar on the NSA web site at www.nsa.gs or visit the NSA Event Calendar to find a fundraising event near you. Additionally, the NSA is able to provide a limited supply of items for door prizes or goodie bags for these fundraising efforts. Please contact the NSA for details.
