Home of Distinction / Ronald McDonald House Receive Home-Tech Support

Fort Myers, FL, February 19, 2011 --(PR.com)-- When Welcome Home Builders approached Mike Hendershott, air conditioning and appliance sales manager at Home-Tech, about participating in a new “green home” they were building on Fort Myers Beach, he was interested. When told the project would benefit Ronald McDonald House, he was sold.

The Home of Distinction tour will be open to the public Thursday through Saturday, every weekend from February 17th through March 6th. The Home of Distinction was designed with the environment in mind. When touring the luxury, three-story home, guests will see a broad spectrum of environmentally friendly materials, building techniques, and of course, appliances.

Home –Tech, a longtime supporter of the Ronald McDonald House provided all of the appliances shown in the home, according to Hendershott. “In the kitchen, we’ve used a Samsung, Quad-Cool refrigerator. With four different compartments that run independently of each other, this refrigerator is Energy Star rated. It is unique because the different compartments can be switched from fresh food to frozen food as needed. This appliance will cost approximately $58 a year to operate, as compared to a conventional refrigerator which will run, on average, $170.”

“The other appliances are equally energy efficient”, Hendershott added. “We’ve used Bosch appliances, the most energy efficient clothes and dishwashing appliances in the industry, in this home. The washing machine uses 25 gallons less water per load than a typical washer. The water savings in one year would fill a swimming pool. The dishwasher uses just three gallons per load (compared to seven for a conventional dishwasher). It re-circulates and filters the wash water during the cycle to clean better using less water. ”

The home also features a built-in convection oven and induction cook top, capable of boiling water in under a minute. All of the appliances are available locally through Home-Tech.

The Home of Distinction is open from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekends from February 17th through March 6th. Guests are invited to park at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church (3751 Estero Boulevard, Fort Myers Beach 33931) and they will be shuttled to the home. The $10 admission will benefit Ronald McDonald House of Southwest Florida. For additional information about the Home of Distinction, contact Ronald McDonald House at (239) 437-0202.
