Arizona Businessman Craig Hughes Nominated for 2011 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year
Discount Cab and Total Transit Founder Nominated as Finalist for the 2011 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year ® 2011 Mountain Desert Region Award
Glendale, AZ, May 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Craig Hughes, founder and CEO of Total Transit, Inc., which owns Valley-based Discount Cab, has been selected as a finalist for the 2011 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year ® 2011 Mountain Desert region award.
Hughes, who founded Discount Cab in 1984 with just two vehicles, has grown Discount Cab into one of the largest cab companies in the southwest and the largest hybrid taxi fleet in North America.
At the same time, Hughes has overseen the development of Discount Cab’s parent company, Total Transit, Inc., into a formidable transportation company with public, private and transportation management lines of business.
The Ernst & Young program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. Hughes was selected by a panel of independent judges.
Award winners will be announced at a special gala event on Thursday, June 16 at the Seawell Ballroom in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in Denver, Colo.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year program celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2011. The program has expanded to recognize business leaders in more than 140 cities and more than 50 countries throughout the world.
Regional award winners are eligible for consideration for the Entrepreneur of the Year National Award. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the Entrepreneur of the Year overall National Award winner, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, California, on Nov. 12.
The awards are the culminating event of the Ernst & Young Strategic Growth Forum®, the nation’s most prestigious gathering of high-growth, market-leading companies, which will be held Nov. 9-13.
