Seth Kahan Presents at American Press Institute Seminar, “Media Leadership in the Digital Age”

Author, journalist and leadership expert, Seth Kahan, recently coached news media executives on change-leadership skills in a “Tackling the Challenges” session for API seminar in Reston, VA, sharing strategies and tactics to succeed in today’s marketplace.

Bethesda, MD, June 03, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Seth Kahan led a session at the American Press Institute seminar, “Media Leadership in the Digital Age” on “Tackling the Challenges” of news leaders on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, in Reston, VA.

Kahan, a change leadership expert, bestselling author and highly regarded speaker, provided guidance on what kind of leadership is required to respond to the unprecedented turmoil that is shaking today’s news business. He shared tips and techniques to address the challenges head on, with a plan of actionable steps to put to immediate use.

“The secret to leading successful organizational change is two-fold,” says Kahan. “Two things motivate professionals to change: the mission of their organization and improving their circumstances,” he says.

Kahan made these points, “In these tumultuous times there are three things leaders need to focus on: (1) competitive intelligence, the gathering of market information with the intent of creating competitive advantage, (2) talent development and recruitment, getting the talent on board that understands the new rules of the market, and (3) moving from an organization-centric approach to one that is centered on understanding the bigger trends; i.e., instead of focusing on the financial survival of the current business, looking to make sense of the larger forces at play and how to contribute in valuable ways.”

The two-day learning event focused on building a news organization and workforce that can capitalize on the opportunities ahead. All sessions addressed ways to identify and leverage the most promising paths to success, align the organization’s strategy with the outcomes they desire, and develop a team that can create new initiatives and get them up and running. News leader professionals from several publications were in attendance.
