)-- Since 1993, Jonathan Rice has written literally thousands of ads for dozens of clients. From Sun Microsystems to Pizza Hut, from Ford Motor Company to Guinness Brewing, his copywriting has generated sales galore.
Jonathan started tracking his personal results in 1998. After each campaign, he would contact the client and ask for a summary of the results of that push. Although some were reticent, on the whole the response was very positive. "I wanted to ensure that I wasn't creating materials in a vacuum," says Rice. "Too often the agency or writer simply pleases the six or seven members of a focus group and their Creative Director. I wanted to make sure I was pleasing the client, and the client's customers."
Jonathan now estimates that his campaigns have driven over $50 million in sales for his clients. "It's hard to be certain, and I had to estimate before 1998, but the trend has been for several million per year. It helps keep me on track with each client to know what works and what doesn't. I just wish I was on commission!"
