Kathleen Diamond, Founder of LLE – Language Services, Awards Scholarship and Delivers Keynote Address at University of Florida

University of Florida student receives Kathleen K. Diamond Scholarship for Language Majors; LLE – Language Services CEO addresses students and faculty on the future of foreign language industry.

Washington, DC, May 10, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Recognized as the nation’s fourth largest university, the University of Florida’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Department of Romance Languages and Literatures hosted their annual student award ceremony on April 19th. Kathleen K. Diamond, CEO of LLE – Language Services, a leading foreign language services provider to government and business organizations, delivered the keynote address before awarding the Kathleen K. Diamond Scholarship for Language Majors to a well deserved student, Adam Reinke. Approximately 100 students and faculty gathered in the Dauer Hall of the Keene Faculty Center, listening intently as Diamond addressed the opportunities available to foreign language majors and how organizations across the globe rely heavily on linguists in a post 9/11 world.

Following her introduction by Dr. David Phaires, Department Chair and Professor of Spanish and Linguistics, Diamond explained, “We are a land of many languages, we are a post 9/11 world, and we are trading in a global economy. When these realties exist, we must recognize the immediate need for interpreters and translators. To study a foreign language, any foreign language, is to enhance your value in the marketplace upon graduation. You will find opportunities for your language proficiency in the legal, financial and medical fields. You will need to concentrate on learning and perfecting the specialized skills of translation of the written message and interpretation of the oral. You will find urgent need for these skills in local, state, and federal government, but you will also find exciting opportunities working as linguists in private companies such as LLE.”

Located in Gainesville, the University of Florida enrolls approximately 50,000 students on an annual basis, and is home to over 300,000 members of the “Gator Nation.” As an alumna herself, Diamond understands the importance of foreign languages outside of the class room.

“The problem I faced, post-school, was that even the classroom became a limited option for a language major. Fewer students enrolled in foreign language classes as requirements dropped from the curriculum. I fell back on the tools I was taught as a “Gator Co-ed”, the ability to analyze a problem and devise a solution. If I could not find a pre-existing classroom, I would have to create one of my own. Thus, in the fall of 1979, I founded Language Learning Enterprises, known today as LLE – Language Services.”

Today, LLE provides technology based foreign language interpretation and translation services to over 2,000 clients worldwide. Interested parties who wish to learn more are encouraged to contact LLE at (877) 405-8764 or visit www.lle-inc.com.
