PcPools Announces Safety Tips for Pool Owners

PcPools Confirms Several Key Safety Tips for in Ground and Above Ground Swimming Pool Owners

St. Paul, MN, February 16, 2012 --(PR.com)-- PcPools, one of America’s leading direct marketers of above ground pools and pool supplies for residential and commercial pool owners, offers several key tips for pool safety.

First, it is important to note that pool safety is a year-round necessity, as accidents can still occur when a swimming pool is closed down. This is why it is imperative for a pool owner to be as proactive as possible in accident prevention. With children around, an owner should engage in Constant-Eyes-On (“CEO”) Supervision – never turning a blind eye to a child when he or she is near an open or closed down pool. The dangers of an open pool are more obvious, but with a closed pool a child might try to slip under a pool cover and become trapped. Exercise diligence and attention at all times, because it only takes a few seconds for a child to get into serious trouble near a swimming pool. If you can’t supervise children near a pool by yourself, see if you can find other adults to help.

Marketing Director Ted Robinson had this to say about pool safety: “The more eyes on the children, the better. Raising the issue with guests can also be important, especially if they bring their own children over. This is especially important when pool owners have large gatherings at their houses, as such events easily disrupt routine supervisory patterns and habits. If a child goes missing at such a gathering, adults should first check the pool. In a moment when every second matters, checking the most hazardous place first is the right decision.”

Robinson continued, “Winter maintenance is important in preventing potential safety issues. Winter pool covers should be drained of any water accumulated on the surface, and debris should be regularly cleared off to help prevent tears. If possible, fencing should remain up all year round to preclude unplanned swimming pool access. Fencing should be at least four feet high on in-ground pools, especially if a heavy-duty safety pool cover is not being used. Additional suggested security measures include a locked pool gate, fold-up entry systems, and pool ladder rollguards (for above ground pools). Lastly, parents should be proactive in educating their children, and those in the neighborhood, on proper swimming pool safety techniques.”
