Garden Grove, CA, February 18, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Farmers & Merchants Bank (F&M) Branch Manager Sandy Thomas will be recognized as the Garden Grove Citizen of the Year at Cypress College Foundation’s 37th Annual Americana Awards Banquet on Saturday, February 25 at the Disneyland Hotel.

The Cypress College Foundation’s Americana Awards program recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exemplary service and a longstanding commitment to their community.

“As the first female to manage a Farmers & Merchants Bank branch, Sandy has always been a pioneer,” said Henry Walker, F&M’s chief executive officer. “She is an integral part of Garden Grove and F&M’s success and her tireless commitment to her city and its residents exemplifies the true spirit of service.”

A Garden Grove native, Thomas has worked at F&M’s Garden Grove Branch for more than 35 years. Currently in her third term as the Chairman of the Board of the City’s Chamber of Commerce, Thomas also serves on the Board of Directors for Acacia Adult Day Services and on the Advisory Board for the Garden Grove Assistance League.

Thomas is the 2010 recipient of the prestigious “Women Making a Difference” award presented by California State Senator Lou Correa and winner of the Silver Spoon Award from the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Division.

“The City of Garden Grove has always been close to my heart and I am passionate about helping this community grow and thrive,” said Thomas. “This wonderful city has given so much to me as a resident and professional and I am honored to return the favor.”

Giving back to the community has long been a standard at F&M. The Bank continues to donate more than $1 million each year to charities and nonprofit organizations and each branch participates in philanthropic initiatives specific to the city in which it operates.
