UK Crowdsourcing Moves to TV

Calgary, Canada, February 21, 2012 --(PR.com)-- E.ON invites public to shape “Home of the Future” with open innovation platform from 100%Open and Chaordix

E.ON has launched this week a nationwide online community to help generate innovative ideas and help the UK save energy in an initiative managed by 100%Open and powered by Chaordix.

The project represents the next stage of E.ON Innovation, a co-creation programme with E.ON’s customers to develop new products and services. Launched in 2010, E.ON Innovation has so far resulted in the development of four new product and service propositions, with members of the public being rewarded for their winning idea contributions. Encouraged by that success and the subsequent challenge around Electric Vehicles, E.ON Innovation is now launching a wider mainstream customer co-creation platform in connection with Channel 4’s documentary series ‘Home of Future with E.ON’.

In the series, a five-part documentary in which an average family home is transformed into the home of the future, TV viewers follow a family as their home is transformed with futuristic technology, gadgets and the latest in energy saving and generation products. Each episode explores different aspects of the family’s life, themed around rest, work, play, food and wellbeing. Aligned with the TV program, the aim is to build an online innovation community with thousands of contributors.

Roland Harwood, co-founder of 100%Open says, “This project illustrates a new model for innovation and the way companies engage with consumers, where E.ON can not only sell to customers, but also buy from them through a new kind of conversation that in turn, has a direct impact on its innovation pipeline. It is a win-win collaboration between E.ON and the public to deliver new products and services faster, cheaper and better.”

There will be five challenges; one published each week until March 11. Customers can post ideas openly at https://www.eon-innovation.com/ and the best ideas will be eligible for a top prize of a £10,000 home energy makeover. Alternatively, people can submit commercially sensitive propositions privately via 100%Open, who will work closely with the contributors to assess the opportunities.

“This is the second program Chaordix has powered for E.ON and 100%Open, and we are thrilled to see crowdsourcing being introduced into UK homes through television. Viewers can see the real-life use of innovative products that will be in our future homes and they also can participate online in the co-creation of new products,” said Shelley Kuipers, CEO of Chaordix. “Seeing continued UK public engagement in the online community since the first E.ON Electric Vehicle challenge is truly inspiring."
