First-Ever I Love My Park Day Yorktown Event on Saturday, May 5 Volunteers Participating at Events across Yorktown State, Local Parks and Historic Sites

The I Love My Parks Yorktown will welcome visitors and host volunteers at several events happening in and around Town of Yorktown on Saturday, May 5. This celebration I Love My Park Day is an exciting new statewide event to improve and enhance New York’s state parks and historic sites and bring visibility to the entire state park system and its needs.

Within the Town of Yorktown, there are parks of every size and shape. From the massive FDR State Park to tiny Hunter Brook Park, there are many ways to enjoy a low cost, nearby recreation. Discover what is in your backyard. There are more than 30 miles of trails, offering the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and learn about local history, geology, and wildlife.

Begin your day with a guided hike to the Bridge Dedication ceremony and then a visit to the Giant Boulder in Granite Knolls. Linda Cooper, former Yorktown supervisor and currently Regional Director of NYS Taconic Region will host the ribbon cutting ceremony. Please note that onsite parking at Woodlands Legacy Fields is at a premium and reserving a seat on the shuttle bus from FDR Park is highly recommended, see the event website for details on alternates and to reserve a shuttle bus seat. Other activities include guided hikes, mountain bike ride, fishing derby, Geocaching 101, and Spring Cleaning (service project) organized by the Friends of FDR State Park. All events are scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., rain or shine.
