Lurie Besikof Lapidus & Company and Estate Matters Collaborate to Help Families with Age-Related Issues

Minneapolis, MN, April 27, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Lurie Besikof Lapidus & Company, LLP, a leading Twin Cities accounting, tax and consulting firm, has entered into a collaboration agreement with Amy A. Lieberman, President of Estate Matters, LLC. Lurie Besikof Lapidus & Company provides accounting, audit, tax and consulting services to individuals and businesses, a number of which are family-owned. Lieberman serves as an advocate and trusted advisor to elderly clients and their families who seek assistance with administrating needs that arise from aging and life transitions.

Lieberman provides personal services to a wide array of clients and their family members. “The services vary from client to client depending on need,” says Lieberman. “For instance, elderly clients in relatively good health often want to remain in their current residence, but may need assistance with managing their banking, mail, and arrangements with caregivers.”

Lieberman also helps clients and their families with the difficult process and aftermath of losing a spouse or parent. “It’s such a difficult and emotional time. Families welcome having a trusted, neutral party help manage important everyday tasks and coordinate with the team of other providers,” she adds.

A former estate, probate and tax paralegal with a major Twin Cities law firm, Lieberman’s inspiration to launch Estate Matters sprung from a personal experience. Ten years ago, Lieberman’s father-in-law, stricken with terminal pancreatic cancer, asked her to take over his finances and coordinate care for his wife after his death. “He explained that his kids would be grieving and he trusted me to handle his estate matters,” Lieberman recalls. “There was a lot to learn from this wise businessman, who had a successful 40+ year career as a financial planner and life insurance agent.” Lieberman agreed to take on the role of personal manager, not knowing it would launch the next chapter of her life. “Many of my in-laws' friends suggested that I start a business providing this service for other families,” she says. In February 2010, Lieberman formed Estate Matters.

“With Minnesota’s aging population, we see a growing need for Amy’s services,” says Beth Kieffer Leonard, managing partner of Lurie Besikof Lapidus & Company, in describing the importance of collaborating with Lieberman’s company. “The key for the families we work with is to have someone they can trust absolutely. Beyond her technical and management acumen, Amy has exceptional communications skills and poise. These are crucial qualities to both seniors and adult children who need to step in and help their parents.”

“This is not a business that is going away any time soon,” adds Lieberman. “The baby boomers who are taking care of their parents now will need the same level of care themselves in the next 10 to 30 years,” she says. “And the baby boomers are the largest population demographic in American history. Planning—including health care directives, personal organization, and long-term policy decisions—will ultimately determine how well the baby boomers fare in their old age.”
