Oldcastle Precast – Idaho Falls Facility Continues as VPP Star Level Participant in OSHA VPP Safety Program

Littleton, CO, May 09, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Oldcastle Precast of Idaho Falls was awarded VPP Star worksite status for the second time after a rigorous review of their written safety and health management systems, ongoing performance and thorough on-site evaluation by OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) team of safety and health professionals. OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program is the government’s premier safety recognition program.

To celebrate, a luncheon was held on February 7, 2012 for all Oldcastle Precast- Idaho Falls's employees where they received the VPP Star Worksite Flag which was presented by David Kearns, the Boise Area Director of OSHA. The VPP Star status recognizes the outstanding efforts of managers and employees who have implemented exemplary safety and health management systems (SHMS).

They have willingly taken over the tasks of Program Managers, BBSO’s and helped to train and watch over one another so that everyone returns home to their families safely,” stated Bruce Davis, general manager. “We would like to thank Ed Milano for taking the time to help us through the review process. The Idaho Falls facility’s three year Total Case Incidence Rate (TCIR) and Days Away/Restricted/Transferred Case Incidence Rate (DART) for the period 2008-2010 is 4.1 and 2.4, respectively. The site TCIR is 31.7% below, and the DART is 27.3% below the 2009 BLS industry average for NAICS code 32733.

In the United States there are a total of 2,395 VPP sites. Of the 2,395 VPP sites, 1,681 are in Federal OSHA enforcement states, of which Idaho is one. About Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP): Created in 1982, Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) recognize and partner with businesses and worksites that show excellence in occupational safety and health. The Star Program is designed for exemplary worksites with comprehensive, successful safety and health management systems. Companies in the Star Program have achieved injury and illness rates at or below the national average of their respective industries. These sites are self-sufficient in their ability to control workplace hazards. Star participants are reevaluated every three to five years, although incident rates are reviewed annually. VPP participants are exempt from OSHA programmed inspections while they maintain their VPP status.
