He earned his Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation and Tourism (major in Natural Resources Management) from Michigan State University, and a Graduate Certificate from the Institute for Nonprofit Management and Leadership at Boston University.

Wolfe’s Neck Farm Foundation (WNFF) located in Freeport, Maine is pleased to announce David Herring as its new Executive Director.
David brings to WNFF a lifelong commitment to sustainable outdoor recreation and environmental management. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation and Tourism (major in Natural Resources Management) from Michigan State University, and a Graduate Certificate from the Institute for Nonprofit Management and Leadership at Boston University.
Board Chair, Judy Parkhill said, “David’s education and career background in environmental conservation and recreation is a strong fit for WNFF’s intertwined mission of sustainable agriculture and living, recreation and education, and we are extremely excited about his ability to lead our organization into a new chapter.”
Dave was the first Executive Director of Maine Huts & Trails, a statewide organization dedicated to developing and operating a long-distance, non-motorized trail and backcountry hut system in western Maine. During his seven years with the organization he helped raise nearly $10m to build the three backcountry lodges and secure rights, titles or easements of over 100 miles of trail corridor in the Maine wilderness. At Maine Huts & Trails David was a champion for sustainable practices and community economic development, including building “off-the-grid” lodges, with solar energy and composting toilets, building and furnishing the lodges with local and sustainable materials, and sourcing food and other services from local farmers and businesses. Earlier in his career, David spent a number of years overseeing the White Mountain Hut System for the Appalachian Mountain Club, and also worked in product development at Freeport’s own LL Bean. He was recognized in 2011 as one of the “Forty under Forty” by Maine Today Media. David Herring said, “I am immensely excited and honored to be chosen as the next Executive Director for Wolfe’s Neck Farm Foundation. I look forward to working with the Board and Staff to continue the important work of the organization and to helping find new ways to expand the community and deepen our impact.”
