12th Annual Indian Country Affordable Housing & Economic Development Conference Coming Soon

Theme is “Building Healthy Communities,” Olympic Gold Medalist Billy Mills to share his story.

Kansas City, MO, July 18, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The 12th Annual Travois Indian Country Affordable Housing & Economic Development Conference is scheduled for Sept. 10–13 at Casino Del Sol Resort, Spa and Conference Center in Tucson, Ariz. This year’s theme is “Building Healthy Communities” and attendees can expect to hear the stories of successful developments: new and rehabilitated homes for tribal members and economic development projects that have provided desperately needed jobs and services in Indian Country.

Olympic gold medalist Billy Mills will be the keynote speaker. He is known for his Olympic achievements, philanthropic activities and his positive outlook on life. He stunned the world in what has been called the greatest upset in Olympic history, when he won the 10,000 meter race at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. More importantly, Mr. Mills hasn’t forgotten his heritage. He is national chairman of Running Strong for American Indian Youth, a project of Christian Relief Services, which works to improve the quality of life on American Indian reservations around the United States.

Conference attendees will include tribal members who work in housing and economic development: tribal housing authority staff (executive directors, occupancy and resident services staff), tribal housing board members, tribal chairmen and women, tribal council members, tribal economic development staff, tribal college presidents, administrators and finance staff, along with tax credit support staff. Attendees can expect to get in-depth information and tips on the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program, the New Markets Tax Credit program, asset management/compliance, green building, architectural design, inspections, engineering, environmental services and more.

American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian artists and craftspeople are invited to be vendors at the conference. For pricing and more information, contact Eden Rensing at eden@travois.com or 816-994-8970.
