Nuclear Safety Associates Forms Risk Analysis and Fire Protection Engineering Division

Charlotte, NC, October 05, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Nuclear Safety Associates announced today that James Masterlark has joined the company to lead the newly formed Risk Analysis and Fire Protection Engineering division.

“This expansion continues NSA’s focus on hard-to-find specialty niches and positions the company for strong growth in all sectors of the commercial nuclear industry, particularly the utility sector,” said NSA President and CEO Robert Frost, Ph.D.

Masterlark has more than 20 years of experience in risk related fields, including probabilistic risk assessment (PRA), safe shutdown and fire protection engineering. He has developed, coordinated and led major fire protection and PRA projects for pressurized and boiling water reactor nuclear plants, and has served on the American Nuclear Society’s Fire PRA Standard Writing Committee.

Robert Sawdye also joins NSA and will report to Masterlark as manager of marketing and business development for the Risk Analysis and Fire Protection Engineering division.

Frost said the new department and the addition of these key personnel complements NSA’s existing expertise, including reactor physics and core design, nuclear criticality safety, shielding and particle transport, radiological engineering and consequence analysis, phenomenological modeling, seismic and structural engineering, and licensing and regulatory compliance. These services have been re-organized into NSA’s Engineering & Licensing division, which is led by Bruce DeWald, Ph.D.

DeWald and Masterlark will report to Michael Corum, vice president of NSA’s Nuclear Engineering division.

Frost said NSA plans a rapid ramp-up of risk analysis and fire protection engineering services, with wide-ranging capabilities in place before the end of the calendar year.
