The Toale Brothers Sarasota Chapel is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, continually running locally owned business in Sarasota. The predecessor of Toale Brothers was founded in 1912 by George L. Thacker, Sarasota’s first undertaker, who then partnered with Floyd W. Van Gilder to form the Thacker & Van Gilder Funeral Home. The business was purchased by brothers George and John “Jack” Toale in 1948, who passed it on to the second generation, Jack’s son David, and George’s sons Curtis and Robert. It is now being run by the third generation, Robert’s sons Jason and Jeff.
Toale Brothers has three locations: The Colonial Chapel at 40 N. Orange Avenue in downtown Sarasota and adjacent Pre-Arrangement Center, the Bradenton Chapel and Crematory at 912 53rd Avenue W. in Bradenton, and the Gulf Gate Chapel at 6903 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. Telephone: (941) 955-4171. Website: www.ToaleBrothers.com.
