Online Women's Community Joins the Uprising: It's Time to End Rape

Women On The Verge, an online community, tackles the tough subject of ending rape in February.

Tucson, AZ, January 20, 2013 --( While it might be idealistic, isn't it time we unite and speak out in order to eradicate the culture of rape in our world?

“I know it’s wishful—there’s a lot to try to end: global legal failings that allow rapists to commit crimes with impunity; attitudes that blame the victim, leading to suicides and honor killings; misogyny that conditions men (and women) to view women and girls as less than human, as objects to be controlled.” ― Lauren Wolfe, Director of Women Under Siege.

"The End Of Rape" is the topic of the month that the Women on the Verge (WOTV) members will explore via their online community blogs, Twitter, Vlogs and BlogTalkRadio show. They will be joining their voices to an already existing campaign by women worldwide, using the hashtag #2013EndofRape.

"According to a report by the CDC, it has been found that 20% of approximately 5,000 women on 138 college campuses experienced rape during the course of their lifetime. As it turns out, this is the most unreported crime, and in some areas of the world it's the most indefinable crime. This is a crime that not only affects women, boys and men have also been subject to this violence, majority of which, have also gone unreported. We need to put the spotlight on this violation and oppression of our sisters and brothers and help to eradicate it. Too many lives have been shattered and lost to this horrific crime and it needs to stop," says WOTV founder Ana Lewis about the topic of the month.

Tune into "The End Of Rape" on BlogTalkRadio (BTR), where some of the WOTV members will talk about their blogs. The show is scheduled for February 20th, 6-6:30 p.m. ET and can be listened to worldwide on the WOTV and BTR websites.

WOTV member/ radio show panelists include: Judy Kinney, community organizer and life coach; Jessica Mason Pieklo, women's rights activist and attorney; Dawn Rivers, political junkie and anthropologist; and Elin Stebbins Waldal, author of “Tornado Warning, A Memoir of Teen Dating Violence and Its Effect on a Woman's Life” and founder of Girls kNOw. Listen to the show at:

The WOTV blogs, which garner 1,000,000 hits per month, are the main feature of the community and have landed the website in the pages of Marie Claire magazine. The community also boasts an additional 10,000+ followers on social media. Members span all over the world and include New York Times bestselling authors, entrepreneurs and mothers.
