Hydroquip Ltd Completes Compatt Transponder Fleet Upgrade to 6G Standard

Yateley, United Kingdom, January 25, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Hydroquip Ltd. has placed a major order with Sonardyne Inc. in Houston to continue upgrading its stock of Compatt acoustic positioning transponders to the latest 6G (Sixth Generation) specification. The latest order follows a similar contract in 2012 and now means Hydroquip’s rental pool kept at SES inc. in Katy, Texas, has over 100 Compatt 6 transponders available to support subsea survey operations in the Gulf of Mexico region. SES is part-owned by UK-based Hydroquip and acts as its US agent.

6G products utilise Sonardyne’s ultra-wideband width, digital ranging and telemetry protocols developed to increase the precision, speed and reliability of acoustic positioning and aided inertial navigation operations. The platform has been proven to deliver significant operational savings, allowing multi-use subsea construction survey tasks to be completed in less time than previous generation technology.

Commenting on the deal, Alan Craig, Vice President Operations at SES said, “Compatt 5 has been a great workhorse for us over the years but recently we have been witnessing high demand for the performance gains offered by 6G, especially here in the Gulf of Mexico. This latest investment in Sonardyne technology ensures that we are now fully stocked to meet this demand and reinforces our position as a leading supplier of subsea positioning technology.”

Kim Swords, Senior Applications Engineer at Sonardyne Inc. said, “SES and Hydroquip have been major rental suppliers of Sonardyne products for many years and we’re delighted that they have decided to continue upgrading their stock. This latest order reflects the excellent performance and cost savings that 6G offers it users and further reflects SES’ and Hydroquip’s commitment to providing their customers with the best available subsea technology.”
