Marlborough Hotel Room Revenue Up 23.5% in 2 Years: MEDC

Marlborough’s Hospitality Industry is Growing. MEDC: Hotel Room Revenue Up 23.5% Since 2010.

Marlborough, MA, April 07, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Less than a year after the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) revived the Marlborough Restaurant Association (MRA), the city’s hospitality industry is showing signs of growth.

The city’s hotel room revenue jumped by 23.5% from $26,588,746 in 2010, to $32,833,262 in 2012, the MEDC revealed at an MRA-hosted dinner last Wednesday (April 3rd). Room revenue also increased year-on-year by 2.4% in 2012 from $32,061,756 in 2011. The total revenue from meals generated by hotel guests grew by more than 19% in 2012 compared to 2010, and 10.5% year-on-year compared to 2011. The average check per person also rose to $21 in 2012, from $19 in 2011 and $18 in 2010.

More than 35 Marlborough hotel and restaurant community leaders gathered for the dinner, held under the title “Creating A Better Restaurant Community” at the Embassy Suites Hotel. City of Marlborough Mayor Arthur Vigeant and City Council President Trish Pope joined the guests to discuss the local hospitality industry’s current economic footprint and its future outlook. Mayor Vigeant called the event a success and expressed his appreciation of the industry’s performance and its overall positive effects on Marlborough’s economy.

“Marlborough is fortunate to have so many great restaurateurs and business owners, who are committed to not only providing our residents and employers with a variety of high-quality places to dine out in, but who also work together to strengthen the fabric of our community,” said Mayor Vigeant.

“We are very happy to see that Marlborough’s hospitality industry is recording such positive numbers. We feel that our efforts in that field are starting to pay off and that the future looks bright. It is our job to support and help the local economy grow, and today we can really feel that we’re doing that,” said Tim Cummings, MEDC Executive Director.

At the dinner, MEDC also reaffirmed its plans to host 3 Free Tips Training classes in as many months. The classes will hold up to 35 students and be open to all Marlborough hospitality employees, on a first-come-first-served basis. The first training will take place on Monday, April 8th from 4-9pm at the Holiday Inn in Marlborough. The other two are scheduled for Monday, May 6th and Monday, June 3rd from 4-9pm, with the locations still to be determined. Patriot Ambulance said it will also be sponsoring a free CPR Training session for Marlborough hospitality employees on Monday, May 16th from 8am-2pm at the Courtyard Marriot, Marlborough.
