Workforce Investment Board of Ventura County Adds Member, Reappoints Five Others

Ventura, CA, May 22, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Workforce Investment Board (WIB) of Ventura County announced the addition of Rodney Cobos to its board. The Ventura County Board of Supervisors officially appointed Cobos on May 14. Five current board members were reappointed for a two-year term.

Rodney Cobos is the business manager and financial secretary of United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 484 in Ventura. He is also chairperson of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Joint Apprenticeship Committee, vice-presidents of Tri Counties Building Trades and an executive board member of the Tri-Counties Central Labor Council.

"A lot of our tradespeople are out of work. It's hard to find jobs locally," says Cobos. "Our union has a great training program and over 100 people have completed the apprentice program but they can't find jobs in the area. I'd like to improve communication with local companies so they know they don't have to bring in workers from outside the county. There are skilled workers already here."

"There are a number of wonderful job training programs throughout Ventura County. Our challenge is to connect those looking for work with Ventura County businesses that need their skills," says Cheryl Moore, WIB executive director. "This will be even more important as the unemployment rate continues to improve and demand for workers eventually increases. We look forward to Rod being a big asset in this effort."

Reappointed to the WIB are Sarah Asbury, rehabilitation supervisor, California Department of Rehabilitation, Teresa Johnson, director of adult education programs, Ventura Adult & Continuing Education, Mary Navarro-Aldana, manager of job services, Employment Development Department, Zahid Shah, president, United Shah Corporation and Marilyn Valenzuela, executive secretary-treasurer, Tri-Counties Central Labor Council.

Members of the WIB include leaders from business, economic development, education, labor, government and community-based organizations.
