Expanding the Allergen Detection Portfolio – New Test Detects Proteins from Milk

Biomedal Diagnostics' new product line, AlerTox, is now available in the United States and Canada via U.S. importer Emport, LLC. AlerTox is a user-friendly kit that detects the presence of allergenic milk proteins in food and drinks and on surfaces. Biomedal adds this new product to its food safety testing portfolio, which already includes the well-known and successful GlutenTox gluten detection kits.

Pittsburgh, PA, July 10, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Continuing its successful partnership of product development and distribution, Biomedal S.L. of Spain and Emport, LLC of Pennsylvania have released a new product called AlerTox.

The growing incidence of serious allergic reactions to foods and drinks encouraged Biomedal to develop these milk detection kits; AlerTox is designed to be easy-to-use, accurate, and able to detect low levels of allergenic proteins from milk found in foods and liquids and on preparatory surfaces.

The immune systems of children or adults allergic to milk overreact to the presence of proteins, most of which are either caseins or beta-lactoglobulin. These milk proteins should be completely avoided to assure safety – and avoidance begins with purchasing foods that are free of cross-contamination.

AlerTox is the ideal solution for food and drink manufacturers or industrial kitchens who want to offer dairy-free products to customers susceptible to a milk allergy.

“In bringing AlerTox to the table, we're excited to offer companies and kitchens an extra boost of confidence when it comes to allergen safety – a boost of confidence they can share with their dairy-free customers,” said Emily Kaufman, president of Emport, LLC.

AlerTox provides results in fewer than 20 minutes and can detect as little as 2.5 ppm of milk proteins in foods and drinks, so manufacturers can be sure that they offer safe and dairy-free products every time. In the United States, the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) requires that all packaged food products that contain milk as an ingredient must list the word “Milk” on the label.

AlerTox kits are available in a 10-pack or 25-pack of sticks used for the detection of casein or beta-lactoglobulin, proteins that constitute 93% of all proteins in cow´s milk and that cause the allergic reaction to milk. Because of its low detection limits, AlerTox is also suitable for Kosher quality control.

“Manufacturers may now quickly and easily check their food during the production process and ensure it is labeled correctly,” said Catherine Torgler, International Business Development Manager at Biomedal. “With AlerTox, it is much more economical to test ingredients and finished products than to suffer the consequences of an expensive and damaging product recall.”

Due to its innovative practices in the biotechnology industry, the food safety division of Biomedal Diagnostics continues to grow and to develop analytical solutions for urgent sanitary risks for the entire food manufacturing industry, laboratories, and consumers.
