Interest in GlobalCAD's BIM Service is Growing

Surrey, United Kingdom, June 23, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Since its launch, just over a year ago, demand for GlobalCAD's Building Information Modelling service has grown and grown.

When the GlobalCAD BIM service was launched in May 2012, it was clear that there was already a real need for this type of service. The moment GlobalCAD announced their BIM service launch they were approached by several companies. Today, BIM services are an important and growing part of their business.

Building Information Modelling protocols and technology allows the 2D flat plans, which have been used for hundreds of years by architects and builders, to be turned into 3D models of buildings. These models are rendered electronically on a screen rather than being built as physical models. This makes them portable and enables them to be accessed and edited collaboratively by all those involved in a project.

Working from 3D models makes it far easier for everyone involved in a building project to understand the structure of the building or project they are working on. No matter how carefully plans for a building or complex are drawn up, once the building process starts there are always unexpected problems. This means that on most building projects some important decisions have to be made on the fly. With 2D plans, it is easy for things to be missed, and for changes to be made that have unforeseen consequences further down the line. The use of 3D BIM considerably reduces the chances of misunderstandings and mistakes. They help to keep building projects on track, and on budget, so it is not surprising that the use of BIM has become so popular, so quickly.

Growth is Expected to Continue

In May 2011 Paul Morrell, the UK Government's Chief Construction Adviser announced that they wanted all building projects of over £5 million to use 3D BIM. By June 2011, they announced that by 2016 all of their building projects would require everyone involved to provide their design deliverables via BIM.

Given this fact, GlobalCAD expect demand for their BIM service to grow even more. Most people involved in the construction industry see the wisdom of working with collaborative 3D models and associated plans, so have decided to adopt and incorporate BIM into all of their projects regardless of the size of the project, or who the building or complex is being built for. GlobalCAD delivers BIM across multiple design disciplines including architectural, structural and mechanical/electrical/plumbing (MEP) building services.
