LiceDoctors Las Vegas Surveys Says Majority of Families with Head Lice Have Multiple Infested Family Members

LiceDoctors survey of 50 parents in Las Vegas, Nevada and surrounding areas reveals that if one family member has head lice, in the majority of cases, there is at least one other infested family member. This is particularly true if the child is under 10 years of age.

Las Vegas, NV, October 11, 2013 --(PR.com)-- In a survey conducted among 50 parents of children who had had head lice in Las Vegas, the majority of families report that they learned that multiple family members had also contracted a case. The survey was conducted by LiceDoctors and was a series of one-on-one in-depth qualitative interviews. The survey further revealed that when there is a child in the family under the age of 10, there is a greater chance for multiple infestation within a family.

Among the 50 parents interviewed, 40 or 80% reported that more than one person in the family had contracted a case. Among the 40, 35 or 87.5% of the families had at least one child under the age of 10. Within the group of families with multiple cases, 37 or 92.5% of the time the mother also had contracted a case, while 28 or 70% of the time, at least one sibling had picked up the case as well.

Lice are highly contagious and younger children tend to be in closer physical contact to other family members.
