The YMCA of Eastern Union County Supports Military Families

The YMCA of Eastern Union County offers opportunities to help military families during Military Family Month and beyond.

Rahway, NJ, November 07, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Military Family Month provides all Americans the opportunity to recognize the dedication, sacrifice and service of military personnel and their families. The YMCA of Eastern Union County recognizes military families this November, and all year round, by bringing families together to have fun, grow, strengthen their relationships and build connections with other families waiting at home.

“The Y encourages everyone to recognize the sacrifices that military members and their families make in service to our country,” said Alane McCahey, Senior Director of Association Communication, YMCA of Eastern Union County. “Residents of Union County can also show support for military personnel by getting involved with the Y or other local organizations that help military families here in our community.”

In support of military families, the YMCA of Eastern Union County offers a free family membership to qualifying Title 10 personnel and their families, through the Military Outreach Initiative. Those currently eligible to participate in the initiative include: All families of joint deployed National Guard and Reserves; Active Duty Independent Duty station personnel (single or family members); Relocated spouses and family members of deployed Active Duty personnel; and Community Based Wounded Warrior Transition Unit personnel and their families. All branches of the YMCA of Eastern Union County in Elizabeth, Union and Rahway participate in this program for the surrounding communities, allowing families to participate in programs that advance youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

First established by the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) and recognized by first lady Nancy Reagan in 1993, Military Family Month recognizes the dedication and service of military personnel and their families. On Oct. 30, 2009, President Barack Obama continued this important initiative by proclaiming November as Military Family Month, calling on “all Americans to honor military families through private actions and public service for the tremendous contributions they make in the support of our service members and our Nation.”
