McKim & Creed and Project Team Awarded for Contribution to Community

Tampa, FL, November 14, 2013 --(PR.com)-- McKim & Creed, Inc., along with the City of Tampa, Florida, Wharton-Smith and Tagliarini Architectural Group, has won an “Award of Outstanding Contribution to Our Community” from the Hillsborough County Planning Commission.

The award was presented for the team’s work on the Alline Avenue Area Drainage Improvements Project, which features a bungalow-style “house” that functions as a stormwater pump station. The structure was built specifically to blend with the neighborhood, and features a spacious front porch, a grassy front yard, and the ability to alleviate neighborhood flooding during rain events.

The award is part of the Hillsborough County Planning & Design Awards 2013 pro-gram, which recognizes projects that “contribute to a better quality of life and serve as models to learn from and emulate in planning and design,” according to the award program’s call for entries. The team received the award in the investment category.

“We are very proud to be associated with this outstanding project, and appreciate the recognition that Hillsborough County has bestowed upon McKim & Creed and the entire project team,” said Street Lee, PE, senior vice president with McKim & Creed. “This project was a terrific opportunity to improve the lives of the residents in the Alline Avenue neighborhood, and we are happy that we could be a part of a top-notch team that provided a unique and effective solution to the area’s flooding problems.”

The City of Tampa is the project owner and purchased the property for the pump station—which sits just four feet above sea level—in 2007. McKim & Creed’s Clearwater office was responsible for team management and project engineering. Tampa-based Tagliarini Architectural Group designed the “home,” and Wharton-Smith served as the contractor.

At last January’s ribbon cutting ceremony for the Alline Avenue Area Drainage Improvement Project, Bayshore Beautiful Homeowner Association President Andrea Augustine said, “We couldn’t be happier with the response. Not only did you address the problem and put a pump in place, but it’s so aesthetically pleasing and it blends with the neighborhood and it’s quiet, and it won’t affect our property values. If anything, it will increase them. That’s important right now more than ever…Thank you for investing in our neighborhood.”

Three levels of awards were presented in each category, with “Outstanding Contribution to the Community Award” being the top honor.
