Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Celebrates as Hanukkah and Thanksgiving Fall on the Same Day in 2013

Long Beach, NY Based Nursing Home Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Brings Families Together for Hanukkah and Thanksgiving by Designing Festive Programs

Long Beach, NY, November 22, 2013 --(PR.com)-- This fall season, families across the nation are coming together for a unique occasion. The cherished holidays of Hanukkah and Thanksgiving are meeting again for the first time in 125 years. This creates a unique opportunity to make memories by celebrating food and family in honor of this double holiday, something that will only come once in a lifetime and will be remembered for years to come.

In 1863, President Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday to be celebrated on the fourth Thursday of every November. Thanksgiving’s culture has a traditional theme of food, family and togetherness, which are values that have been honored since the pilgrims united and sat with the Native Americans.

The widely celebrated national holiday is sharing the stage this fall season with the Jewish traditional holiday of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights. Unlike Thanksgiving, the much older holiday of Hanukkah lasts for eight days and celebrates the successful rebellion of the Maccabees against Antiochus IV Epiphanes. The holiday’s theme of lights is based on the candles of the temple that burned for eight days with just a one-day supply. Both holidays have a culture that is celebrated every year and have their own traditional foods as well.

“We are very excited to have the opportunity to experience Thanksgiving and Hanukkah together this year. This is a once in a lifetime event and our goal is to aid in bringing families together with celebratory festive programs. Our residents are very much looking forward to the planned programs and activities we have for that day. We are creating the opportunity to make timeless memories and we want residents and their families to take part,” remarked Baruch Giberstien, Administrator at Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Grandell has prepared well for this a-typical holiday event. The dedicated staff have prepared events and meals that include aspects of both holidays. Families and friends of residents are urged to come down to celebrate with their loved ones at Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
