New Organization Seeks to Improve DC’s Digital Literacy
Digital District to host monthly educational panels, training programs, and partner with local universities.
Washington, DC, January 01, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Digital District (C/O Digital Inc.), from the minds behind Social Media Club DC, have announced the creation of a new DC-based non-profit business league to focus on advancing the digital space. Digital District will now replace Social Media Club DC (SMCDC).
For the past 5 years, Social Media Club DC has provided monthly events that focus on the latest changes and best practices in social media; however, as an organization they have decided to expand their scope and bring the mission back home to DC, starting with several philanthropic training programs.
Digital District will now provide partnerships with local universities, training programs, a mentorship program, and new ways for local career seekers to find local opportunities.
“This upcoming year seemed like the perfect time to expand our organization,” said Digital District President Alex Stevens. “Social media is no longer just for early adopters and tech junkies. Social is now an integrated part of life. Digital District aims to set a higher standard for digital communications through our partnerships and trainings. Together we hope to truly make DC the center of the digital sphere, a Digital District.”
Starting in January the Digital District leadership team will begin a speaker series with George Washington University to help students gain insight into the digital space, as well as creating a professional Web presence. The series will culminate with the second annual Career Success Fair, aimed at polishing students digital and professional appearances for their upcoming graduation and internship plans. In March, Digital District will also begin to offer on site community training sessions that focuses on more basic areas of social media such as staying connected to friends and family and understanding online security and privacy.
“Social media is a fantastic way to communicate with people, but the reality is that it’s only one small portion of the digital space,” said Digital District Vice President Elliot Volkman. “We want to empower the entire DC community, not just professionals, to understand how they can take full advantage of the Web. Whether it’s helping people create a professional presence online to find a job, continue their education through open courses, or just stay connected, Digital District has the experts ready and willing to help the community.”
